A Marriage That Works Together--Breaking Ground on the New Studio

Jay and I spent Sunday evening and Monday morning getting our carport moved, as it was in the way of the new studio's planned location. Jay and I have been married for almost 36 years. Over those many years, we've had various experiences working together, and I must say I was delighted to see how much we've evidently learned.
I used to say that every engaged couple should have to sort livestock or pull a vehicle (or be pulled) before they got married. Those tasks seem to highlight the communication flaws between men and women. I'm not sure either of us was too convinced of our expertise in moving that nearly 30 year-old-carport but when it finally came to its resting place, we both were kind of impressed! Even after working side by side in the mill for 18 years, getting our two minds on the same page can still be quite a challenge.
I've already been thinking about these challenges as I move the studio to the farm. I know my proximity will mean being called upon to help with farm tasks I haven't really been needed for in the past. Things that he just does without a second thought will mean new skills for me to learn.
Communicating when deadlines are looming (no pun intended) and when I really don't have the time available to run for parts will be a challenge. But after the success of moving the carport, I'm a little less anxious about figuring this all out. One thing I know for sure is that we'll continue to work together and weave a bit more yardage in this life.
I look forward to keeping you updated as we progress on the project. I'm already dreaming about weave-a-longs and workshops and new pieces that need to be shared with the world. Whatever I do, I know the roots of our family story will be woven through it and my prayers for all of you that make this journey so much fun will be keeping time with the beat of the loom.
